➼ About patches
Iron-on or not?
When ordering, you can choose your iron-on or sew-on patch. It first of all depends on the textile on which you want to put your patch:
If it is cotton, you can iron your patch directly onto your clothing. (see Applying an iron-on patch to cotton)
If it is made of polyester or nylon, you can also iron-on (see Application of an iron-on patch on nylon or polyester fabric.)
Do you want to place your patch on faux leather, leather or another material? I advise you to take your patch without iron-on, and sew it directly onto your clothing!
If your patch must be subjected to the harsh tests of everyday life, do not hesitate to sew the edges to strengthen its hold.
In addition, if you want to put your patch on an area of fabric with relief (seams, lace, embroidery, pleats, pockets, etc.) it will be better to sew your patch.
Good to know
We do not iron-on a pattern on fabrics that cannot withstand ironing (such as tulle, coatings, PVC fabrics, crystal, etc.)
➼ Application of an iron-on patch on cotton
Wash and iron the garment so that the iron-on adheres well.
Remove the protective paper, place the pattern in the desired location and respect the temperature of the iron depending on the textile.
Cover with parchment paper (for basic cottons) or a pattemouille (for cottons and more fragile fabrics such as Liberty, poplin, muslin, etc.)
Iron using pressure for 20 seconds without dragging the iron. Raise the iron and let the patch cool.
Check that the patch is secure by trying to lightly peel away the edges. If they come off a little from the fabric, place the pattemouille back on the patch and reapply the iron for about ten seconds.
➼Application of an iron-on patch on nylon or polyester fabric.
Set the iron to nylon or low temperature mode (no steam).
On the reverse side on the supporting garment, place a pattemouille (damp cloth).
Remove the protective paper and iron using pressure for 6 to 7 seconds, sliding the iron lightly. Raise the iron and let the patch cool.
Check that the patch is secure by trying to lightly peel away the edges. If they come away a little from the fabric, place the patch back on the patch and reapply the iron for a few seconds.
➼Help!! I applied my iron to the iron-on side!
Don't panic, immerse your still hot iron in a splash of white vinegar and let it act. A sponge and you remove the glue.
Thermoadhesive or not?
When ordering, you can choose your heat-sealing or sewing patch. It depends on the textile on which you want to put your patch:
If this is cotton , you can heat your patch directly on your garment. (See Application of thermocadhesive patch on cotton)
If it is made of polyester , or nylon , you can also heat-seal (see Application of a thermoadhesive patch on a nylon or polyester fabric.)
Want to put your patch on imitation leather , leather or some other material ? We advise you to take your patch without heat-sealant, and sew it directly on your garment!
If your patch is to be subjected to the harsh tests of everyday life, do not hesitate to make a stitch on the edges to reinforce its hold.
Moreover, if you want to put your patch on an area of fabric with relief (seams, laces, embroideries, folds, pockets ...) it will be better to sew your patch.
Good to know : A motif is not thermocolled on fabrics that do not support ironing (tulle type, coatings, pvc fabrics ...)
Application of a thermoadhesive patch on cotton
Wash and iron the garment so that the heat seal adheres well.
Take off the paper, place the pattern in the desired position and respect the temperature of the iron according to the textile.
Cover with parchment paper (for basic cottons) or a pattemouille (for cottons and fabrics more fragile type Liberty, poplin, muslin etc ...)
Press down for 20 seconds without sliding the iron. Lift the iron and allow the patch to cool.
Make sure the patch is securely attached by trying to peel off the edges slightly. If they come off a little from the fabric, replace the patch on the patch and apply the iron again for about ten seconds.
Application of a thermoadhesive patch on nylon or polyester fabric.
Set the iron to nylon or low temperature (no steam).
On the wrong side of the garment, place a wet cloth.
Take off the paper, press down for 6 to 7 seconds by sliding the iron slightly. Lift the iron and allow the patch to cool.
Make sure the patch is securely attached by trying to peel off the edges slightly. If they become loose from the fabric, replace the patch on the patch and reapply the iron for a few seconds.
Help!! I applied my iron on the thermo-adhesive side!
Do not panic, plunge your iron still hot into a background of white vinegar and let act. A sponge and you remove the glue.
